Draft Loop

beats for work in progress

Draft Loop makes the draft state permanent. In writing and design, a draft is an in-progress document — unfinished, functional, honest. A loop is something that repeats by design. Together, the name describes Lo-Fi Hip-Hop's essential quality: music that is deliberately incomplete in a way that creates comfort.

BPM
72–88
Instruments
Chopped samples, lo-fi keys, soft boom-bap drums, vinyl crackle, occasional guitar
Atmosphere
Warm, imperfect, steady — tape hiss and slight pitch drift are features, not errors

Formed in a student apartment in Kichijōji, western Tokyo. The practice of making beats started with found sounds: a creaking chair, the ambient noise of a specific room at a specific time. Nujabes was the formative encounter — discovered through Samurai Champloo before the soundtrack was understood as genre-defining. J Dilla's Donuts was the second revelation: incompleteness as a compositional choice.
